Most gyms have a large rack of dumbbells ranging from below 5 pounds to over 100 pounds. That’s a lot of dumbbells. You’d think more people would have figured out how to use them properly.
It amazes me how little use the heavier dumbbells get. If the dumbbells are painted black, the light weight dumbbells are usually worn and chipped. But the heavier dumbbells look the same as they did when they were purchased.
Part of the reason for this is people are only using the dumbbells for “toning” and “shaping” exercises. They throw in a couple sets of flies, lateral raises and kickbacks to compliment their machine and barbell training. And most of these “isolation” exercises are done with low weights.
If this sounds familiar, you’re NOT using dumbbells to their full potential.

When was the last time you did a full dumbbell workout? I mean, a workout consisting solely of dumbbell exercises. Never?
The fact is, a dumbbell workout is an excellent way to improve fitness, blast off fat and build strong muscles. And yes, you can get a great workout using only dumbbells!
So if you’re looking to get the most out of your dumbbell training, or are just looking for some variety from your machine and barbell workouts, I suggest you try a full body dumbbell workout. I think you’ll be surprised at how much you’ve been missing.
