The activities of sport, work and life challenge us daily, and we must accept out role as Everyday Athletes to meet those challenges with excellence.
In my line of work, the conversation inevitably turns to some aspect of physical training. It just goes with the territory.
Some want to pick my brain and ask question after question. Some want to argue the superiority of their system or something they read in a magazine. And some are searching for some type of inspiration. Some people actually avoid me out of embarrassment. They think the topic of conversation will reveal their own fitness, health and physique shortcomings.
However, the most intriguing of all are the people who utterly deny physical training any value whatsoever. I know it sounds ridiculous but it’s true. Physical training has absolutely no place in their lives, and what is more disturbing, the topic is as desirable as stepping in dog droppings.
They simply don’t see the point of maintaining a high level of fitness, improving health and developing an attractive body through proper physical training, nutrition and lifestyle.
Usually they have a long list of reasons supporting their standpoint...
As well as...
- “It is all about genetics.”
- “Modern medicine will take care of all my ailments.”
- “The benefits are not worth the effort.”
- “I can always get plastic surgery.”
And my personal favorite...
- "I'm not an athlete, so what's the point?"
The point is... we are all athletes!
The challenges of sport, work and life require a certain degree of athletic ability for successful completion regardless of who you are or what you are doing. We are all Everyday Athletes: people who need to possess the natural or acquired physical abilities of human activity necessary to meet the challenges of sport, work and life with excellence.
Your success as an Everyday Athlete is determined by your physical training, nutrition and lifestyle choices, and can greatly improve your quality of life. So accept your role as an Everyday Athlete and start acting like one.
You can increase your level of fitness, improve health and get the body you have always wanted... leading to the ability to live life to the fullest.
