6 Characteristics
Of A
Success Physical
Fitness Program

By Coach Eddie Lomax

Use these 6 characteristics in your quest to find the perfect physical fitness program, and avoid costly money, time and energy mistakes.

Looking for a physical fitness program to follow, or a fitness product to help you achieve a high level of fitness, improve health and develop an attractive physique is a daunting task. There are so many different types of physical training to choose from. And they all claim to be your perfect physical fitness program for your needs.

So many recommendations...

So many famous personalities...

So many advertisements...

But which physical fitness programs works best for you?

The deciding factor as to which physical fitness program is right for you is, and always has been, your common sense.

If the physical fitness program...

  • attracts you
  • speaks to you
  • excites you
  • and ultimately makes sense to you

... it is probably the right physical fitness program for you.

After all, only a physical fitness program you actually do, and that becomes a part of your lifestyle, will give you the long-term fitness, health and physique benefits you seek.

While your personal goals, needs, wants, abilities and limitations play a deciding factor in the physical fitness program you choose, here are some characteristics to look for during your search. The more of these characteristics your physical fitness program has, the better the chances you will succeed in achieving your fitness, health and physique goals.

Your Physical Fitness Program

Must Be... Effective

While this characteristic seems like a no-brainer... you would be surprised at just how many people are actively involved in a physical fitness program that will never give them the results they seek.

Many people say they want improve their level of fitness... and participate in a bodybuilding program. According to my definition of fitness, they will never get fit that way.

Many people say they want to improve their body composition... and participate in an aerobic endurance program. Focusing only on aerobic training will not produce the lean, muscular, athletic body most people want, regardless of all the hard work.

The point is, make sure the physical fitness program you choose is designed to get the results you want. Or you are doomed to failure before you begin. You would be surprised how many people fall victim to the bodybuilder-marathoner fitness fallacy.

If you want to increase fitness, improve health and develop an attractive physique... look for a physical fitness program and fitness products designed to produce these results.

So, the workout program must be effective FOR YOUR GOALS!

Your Physical Fitness Program

Must Be... Interesting

Let's face it, if you are not interested in the physical fitness program or fitness product you choose, you won’t perform it long enough to see results. I don't care if the physical fitness program was proven to work by thousands of scientific studies. It will have no positive effect on your fitness, health or physique if you don't do it.

And you won't do it, if it does not hold your attention and peak your interest.

No matter how many times you say, "This time I'm not giving up until I get the results I want."... you will eventually give up if the physical fitness program is not interesting to you.

Don't force yourself to struggle through a physical fitness program you hate. Look for interesting fitness programs and products that fit into your lifestyle and match your personality. You might even look forward to your next physical training session.

So, make sure the workout program is interesting enough to hold YOUR attention!

Your Physical Fitness Program

Must Be... Modifiable

There is not one physical fitness program or fitness product in existence that can be all things to all people (regardless of what all the slick-tongued advertisements say).

Physical fitness programs and fitness products must be modifiable to your goals, needs, abilities and limitations. You must be given a degree of freedom to make the physical fitness program uniquely your own.

You have different wants and needs. You have different strengths and weaknesses needing specific attention. Therefore, you must be able to take an active role in the design of the physical fitness program you choose, modifying it into your perfect program.

Cookie-cutter programs claiming long-term results do not work. Look for physical fitness programs easily modifiable to your unique situation.

So, make sure the workout program is flexible enough to fulfill your UNIQUE goals!

Your Physical Fitness Program

Must Be... Sustainable

The more your physical fitness program is dependent on machines, devices and other complexities, the easier it is to destroy.

Don't build your fitness program like a house of cards.

What happens when the machine is not available, the device breaks or the complexity you have based your entire fitness program on is lacking? Your physical training comes to a grinding halt!

Make sure the physical training program you choose is flexible enough to be sustainable through life's changes. Going on vacation should not destroy the active lifestyle you have created for yourself. Being able to consistently sustain physical training in your lifestyle is the only way to ensure long term fitness, health and physique benefits.

So, look for programs versatile enough to change as your goals, needs and circumstances of life change!

Your Physical Fitness Program

Must Be... Progressive

There are many physical fitness programs out there presented as a fixed workout. Do this and you will get the results you want. And the workout may be effective in the beginning, for some people and for a limited amount of time. Unfortunately, any workout program that is not a part of a progressive over-all plan is doomed to failure.

A workout without a progressive plan is little more than manual labor. Any improvements you see in the beginning quickly disappear, leaving you asking, "What do I do now?" Then it is off to look for another workout to try.

Make sure the physical fitness program you choose is progressive in nature. And by progressive I mean more than just "add more weight". Progression on many different levels is probably the most important aspect of any successful fitness program.

So, make sure your workout program is progressive enough to be used for a long period of time without losing its effectiveness.

Your Physical Fitness Program

Must Be... Measurable

The ability to measure your progress keeps you on the track of success, enabling you to see where you've been and where you're going.

Make sure the physical fitness program you choose comes with a workout journal, or that one can be easily made. Don't underestimate the importance of a workout journal. Your workout journal helps you judge if your physical training efforts are getting you closer to your goals.

The pursuit of fitness, health and physique is a journey, and like any worthwhile journey, it should be documented. Look for physical fitness programs and fitness products making it easy to measure their effectiveness. How else will you really know if it is working for you or not?

So, make sure you can easily document your fitness journey to ensure results!

Keep these 6 characteristics of a successful physical fitness program in the forefront of your mind when looking for you the fitness program right for you. Use your common sense, find what is right for you, and above all else, do it!
